Direct and indirect beneficiaries

Genebanks will benefit directly from the adoption of better tools and methodologies for the documentation of PGRFA information related to rice accessions. Rice plant breeders and users of the multilateral system will benefit from a facilitated access to a global distributed wealth of associated information that will go beyond the passport data. Research institutions will get additional information on the availability of accessions that may help the decision-making process on regeneration and conservation, with a direct impact also on national plant breeding programs. The Treaty Community in general will benefit from improved mechanisms promoting the use of PGRFA included in Annex 1. Bioinformatics’ teams in participating institutions will participate and the design of the plugin and will increase their capacity and their knowledge to align the way they operate with best practices adopted already in other domains.
